​This picturesque country church is located on beautiful Yonges Island at the far southwestern edge of the Charleston metro area. The church was once actually located along the Stono River many decades ago back in the days when nearby Meggett was a thriving railroad shipping hub for the region. Today the church is set a little further inland among grand live oaks. Directly behind the church, there is a prayer garden whose centerpiece is the largest pine tree. Its circumference is significantly greater than many around it. Like so many other Christian churches throughout the Lowcountry, this feels like a holy place blessed by God. The way that the sunlight filters through the many stained glass windows during morning services is inspirational and further adds to the solemnity of the traditional Catholic liturgy. This church is definitely a masterpiece in the countryside and celebrated its 100 years in 2015.
